I didnвЂ™t need to store things online because most of the time, I had my computer in my backpack, so my data was almost always available. I used to avoid keeping my data outside devices IвЂ™m able to control. Remember that itвЂ™s not zero-one decision вЂ“ you can still use encryption for your most sensitive data (what I highly recommend) and store other files as usual. Unfortunately, convenience rarely goes hand-in-hand with security, and, what is more relevant today вЂ“ privacy. Using end-to-end encryption on your own isnвЂ™t the most convenient way of utilizing cloud storage. So, is it worth even bother? You have to answer it by yourself. It comes with a cost вЂ“ the fancy web interface where you can browse files, preview images and documents, or even edit them is no longer usable. Your account works like a key вЂ“ only you and your provider have access to the unencrypted data (because the service also has access to encryption key). It means, no breach on your providerвЂ™s server will reveal your files. Thanks to them, your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Why even bother?ДЄlmost every storage provider encrypts your data (Google, Dropbox, OneDrive) or gives you control over encryption (S3). I do not recommend and I do not encourage to treat it as a way to hide and store illegal files.

This article demonstrates how to set up an encrypted cloud drive to protect your data and privacy from your cloud storage provider. Maybe IвЂ™ll write about it in another article. Cryptomator is also an excellent tool, but for the current case, I found rclone to be more useful. Some time ago, I wrote about syncing files with cryptomator vault. ItвЂ™s not my first endeavour with cloud storage and encryption. In this article, IвЂ™d like to show you my approach to use rclone as the way to have an end-to-end encrypted cloud drive. To make them more useful to me, I was looking for an end-to-end encryption mechanism I could use with clouds in tandem, and I finally discovered rclone. However, I donвЂ™t consider them the best place for all my files, especially sensitive ones. They are relatively cheap online storage.

IвЂ™ve installed stupid other software listed, and none of it does what I have before.Last time IвЂ™ve experimented with applying various encryption solutions to the public cloud storage such as Google Drive or OneDrive. This is not listed on the WD site when I filter by my device. I cannot seem to find this software ANYWHERE anymore. I also have WD Access (?) installed on my laptop, which puts a WD icon in my system tray, and if I right click on that, it gives me options to go to either Mењњloud on my network. The desktop was also working like the laptop until I reformatted. Now the laptop doesnвЂ™t show the my clouds anymore under network, however my mapped drives are still working perfectly fine on that machine. This WAS working perfectly on my 1 desktop before the re-format, and was working on 1 of my laptops. I want to mount folders from the network page (I have usb drives connected also). As a work around - I have pinned both to Quick Access from here, but this is not my ideal setup. I can access both my clouds IF I type in the IP address into file explorer. I have a My Cloud 1 bay (not home) and a PR2100. I cannot however get the My Clouds to show up under the computer section. Everything seems to be working among all pcвЂ™s. Both laptops are also running Win10.ДЄs soon as both desktops were set up and joined my network, I can see them in the COMPUTER section of the Network folder from both laptops and from eachother.

The 2 desktops are essentially new machines (1 is a completely brand new build running Windows 10 and the other got reformatted and has a fresh new install of Windows 10). I have 4 computers at home, 2 desktops, and 2 laptops.
